- Dual Occupancy
- Knock down rebuild
- Sloping Block
The clients wanted to maximise the site by creating two quality residences, with the front town house to be sold and the rear used as their family home. In their home, the clients wanted to create cosy, inviting spaces where friends and family can drop in and make themselves at home. Books and reading was also a critical part of their lifestyle so quiet spaces to read and shelving needed to be included in the design.
Good architectural principles like access to northern light, ventilation and a well insulated south side was important to enable a good quality of life in both homes. The clients' parents visit and stay for months at a time so provisions for multigenerational living on a sloping site was addressed with a wheelchair friendly ramp that lead to a second side entrance to a suite with a bedroom, sitting area and ensuite connected to the main family residence. Whilst the clients home was customised to suit their lifestyle, the home at the front was designed and detailed to maximise its saleability to the local market whilst not overcapitalising.
