The brief
This project was commissioned as a long‑term family home designed to support multigenerational living, ongoing care requirements and a highly connected, technology‑enabled lifestyle. The brief called for a home that feels calm, light‑filled and intuitive to live in, while also delivering strong architectural presence. High‑level automation was integral to the design, supporting comfort, security and ease of use throughout the home. The brief also included a dedicated, creatively zoned area for the clients’ son — a musician — providing space to create, focus and be inspired, with close proximity to the entry for independence and ease of access. Privacy, flexibility and the ability for family members and carers to operate independently were key considerations throughout.
Our approach
The design responds with a carefully zoned two‑storey home where technology and automation are embedded seamlessly into the architecture. Lighting, climate, security and spatial transitions are designed to operate intuitively, enhancing comfort and usability without visual clutter. A dedicated creative zone incorporating the son’s bedroom and music‑making space is positioned close to the entry, allowing autonomy while remaining connected to the home. Elsewhere, living areas are arranged to maximise light, openness and connection, while private zones support retreat and care‑led functionality. A restrained yet refined material palette reinforces the home’s minimalist character, resulting in a residence that is expressive, intelligent and deeply considered.
